Allkaj, Albania
Published by Katie September 21st, 2007 in AlbaniaI wouldn’t have known it existed, as it’s a 30 minute drive off a main road I frequently travel. But Allkaj is where three of my former students are from. I went to visit them, meet their families and see their homes. I drank a lot of Coco Cola and ate a lot of cookies. I brought photo albums to show them my family and friends. It was so interesting for me to get out and see such small communities that are so close to where I live, yet so different from the city of Berat.
As they’re about to head off for their first year at university (congratulations Eda, Jola and Leda!) to study English, I wish them the best of luck. I will miss you this year at school!
Lunch: sausage, eggs, cheese and really good local wine.

This was just one section of a huge pile of corn in one of the family’s gardens.
