Northern Trip: Part III
Published by Katie September 2nd, 2007 in Albania
Kukes is a rather ‘new’ city, as the original is now underwater. Another manmade lake took over the old Kukes city and so now the new one reigns. We stopped by to see this northern point and to visit the three volunteers who live and work there.

A new bridge that helps connect Kukes to the southbound road.

We walked out to this point, where the old Communist Hotel once flourished. A great sunset spot.
Below: Our group and others hanging out on the hotel grounds:

We explored the city with our experienced guides and eventually wound up at one of their host family’s. Great people, fun to talk to - we even danced a bit after walking in their door as strangers an hour before.

Joey even found a hammock in their house!
We were up early the next morning to catch a mini bus that would take us southbound to Peshkopi.
