Northern Trip: Part I
Published by Katie August 23rd, 2007 in Albania
We spent the first night of the trip in Tirane, thanks to my friend Alexa. Caught the 6AM bus to Puke (pronouced ‘Puka’) the next day and so the trip began …

This trusty bus took us four hours north to Puka. It was a decent ride, although very crowded with both seats and aisles packed with people. I had two seatmates (the usual being one), who wanted to hear my story. We were well acquainted by 10AM.
Puke is a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains. It felt so peaceful there and our excellent guides, Jenny and Dan gave us a perfect tour of their site.

Stops along way on the hike around Puke:

New friends:

Tony Noss, this one’s for you, a decaying can of ‘Mythos’ beer by the lake:

Puke peppers and other photos:

The newly renovated hotel, very nice and quite fancy:

Mjaft (an Albanian civil activist group) is making their mark!

Oh, the views - absolutely stunning. In the distance you can see the tail end of the Alps:

We hiked up to their ’sunset spot’ that evening, armed with locally brewed Puka beer (served in big, brown, plastic bottles) and our cameras:

Loved the beer!

I highly recommend any travelers to make it up to Puka; while it’s four hours north of Tirane, it’s worth it!
