It was a simple invitation to accompany my two friends from the municipality to do a project survey. They have a client who’s in the beginning stages of building a small hotel in a fairly remote village at the base of Mount Tomori. James didn’t feel like coming (he was up the entire night and morning before to watch the Superbowl in Tirane! 12:30AM - 4:30 AM showing in this part of the world … GO COLTS!) but I was done with school early and couldn’t pass up a road trip. It turned out to be a great ride along the winding mountain road that heads east out of Berat.

The road was very (very) bumpy and I came to understand the function of the hand handles placed conveniently over the windows in off-roading vehicles.

While future guests of this hotel will have quite the journey getting there, the village itself is very lovely. Very removed and very quaint and with a beautiful view.

These boys were walking up the road after school and didn’t seem to believe that my ‘Miredita’ (Good afternoon) was for them. Axhem and Vali explained me. I think I’ll miss being explained and introduced to so many people on a daily basis when I return back home. You’re different, your speaking their language with what has to be a ridiculous accent and pronounciation …
