Back in ‘Christmas’ time … celebrating at the Umlauf’s
Published by Katie December 30th, 2006 in AlbaniaChristmas is over … but I’m behind on documenting and want to re-live our awesome Christmas in Kitzbuhel with the Umlauf family.
We felt like family, were in on everything that went on, and definitely appreciated climing mountains and skiing on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
We decorated the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve (this is tradition, and with real candles on the tree!).

Then opened presents …

Mike with new hat from Niki (on the right) who is a sponsored skier by Nike. He and Mike became ski buddies for life the next day on the slopes.
Presents were followed by an amazing Christmas Eve dinner made by Margrit …

We finished by getting bundled up and heading for midnight mass in the center of Kitzbuhel:

Things only got better in the way we celebrated Chrismtas Day the next morning, with sports and being outdoors in Kitzbuhel …

Isabel, Lauren, and I hiked for an hour and a half, eventually arriving at this spot:

Very good Austrian cuisine - complete with their traditional meats and cheeses and pickled peppers.

Happy, happy campers:

And our very happy waiter!
We leave Austria for good today … and head to Prague to settle into our New Year’s spot.
Goodbye to speaking Deutsch, eating schnitzel, and drinking ‘weiss bier’ - hello Czech and our Eastern European roots!
