Everyone’s asking “Kur do te vij Beni?”
Published by Katie September 13th, 2006 in Albania“When is Ben coming?”
Before you read on, please note that “Ben” turns into “Beni” – the addition of “i” denotes a noun in its definite form … and makes English speakers think of a probable nickname for Ben at age four or five.
My next, very excellent visitor comes in two weeks! My host grandpa, the infamous Zaku who makes a debut in most batches of photos I upload, has been counting down the months, weeks, and days of Ben’s arrival since mid June.
(To refresh your memory, this is Zaku.)
And for my benefit, Zaku would leave off about a month’s time when calculating Ben’s arrival. At the beginning of July, Zaku would report that Ben comes in two months, instead of the more accurate three. So cute, so great – just trying to cheer up a girl whose boyfriend is across the entire European continent, the Atlantic Ocean, and half of America (he put it that way once).
And now I can finally say “Dashuri im do te vij shpajt – vetem du jave! (My boyfriend is coming soon – only two weeks!”) and Zaku, now seeing I can handle the truth, addresses the real number of days (14 today!) until Ben arrives in Albania.
Honey, I hope you’re ready to be greeted and treated as a kind of VIP for 10 days – and I can’t wait to see you bask in the visitor/guest spotlight. Get ready for raki (Albania’s signature hard liquor made from grapes), food (guests are fed like royalty), coffee (you’ll get one in every home you enter), and attention!
