Albanian Proverbs, Albanian Culture
Published by Katie April 19th, 2006 in AlbaniaWith my “One Month in Albania” anniversary coming up (strange? as it feels like I’ve been here for one YEAR), I give you some insight into Albanian culture by sharing some Albanian proverbs.
I am fascinated and continuously wondering about the meanings behind everything that goes on in this country.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: my mind and senses are constantly stimulated.
Words will never be enough or do justice to the people, the sights and sounds, and the feelings that accompany them … but I will attempt to use words in a way that allows me to connect with you, the reader. Whoever you are, wherever you are, my wish is simple.
I hope you connect my various descriptions and experiences with what you know and experience in your own life.
May you gain something from these Albanian proverbs:
“Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.”
“He who does not work is a weight on the earth.”
“There is a mountain between saying and doing.”
“You cannot fry pancakes in water.”
“Do not ask for more than you deserve.”
“You cannot hold two pumpkins under one arm.”
“Live as if you will die tomorrow; learn as if you will live forever.”
“He who knows more talks less.”
