Up and coming
Published by Katie April 14th, 2006 in Albania
I’m cooking dinner for my host family tonight. The menu will be as follows: a salad (the usual, with lettuce with onions and olive oil), baked apples with sugar and raisins, and a pasta/tomato/onion/meat bake. We’ll see how it goes!
The sun is finally out today, after 3 straight days of cold, rainy weather. It was rough. Last night I wore 2 pairs of socks, a pair of long underwear, fleece pants, and five different layers on top to bed. You really do stick together as a family in the warmest room at all possible times!
I take off on Sunday afternoon (I hear it’s Easter?) to spend three days with a current PC volunteer. She is actually done with service in a month, so rumor has it that I’ll collect a lot of useful hand-me-downs. Christmas at Easter time!
A week from today I’ll know where I’ll be living and teaching for the next 2 years of my life … hard to imagine that I’ll be getting this news so soon. We are all anticipating word of our future sites a bit anxiously, as it’s a big deal.

Breakfast! Look closely and you will see the “Byrek” that I’ve spoken about. Had some last night for dinner.

My group in the main training room.

Albanian hospitality is huge. Huge, huge, huge. They are incredibly accomodating and the most gracious hosts imaginable. This brick walk way was built for us when we first arrived at our hotel … which is now almost 4 weeks ago! I think I mentioned this in one of my first posts.
Hope all is well!
