Lesson learned: One must take the time to visit friends to see what & where it is they call home

Today, K^2 (Katie Ploeger and I) did a great thing. We made a trip that was well in order and long past due.
It was a trip just 1.5 hours from Minneapolis/St. Paul.
A trip to see Tasha in her hometown of Nelson, WI.
We bundled up and headed outside to walk around their huge spawl of land:

They have trails that go for miles …

One of their pastures, which completely flooded in the early nineties. The Mississippi is just beyond the trees.

Tasha’s dad, Greg, is part of an organic farming cooperation with a handfull of other organic farmers. The Hetrick farm is a dairy farm, and the milk that their cows produce is so, so good … and the cheese that comes from the milk is so, so, tasty. It will be making its way to grocery stores in the cities very soon.
Buy it when you see it!

New calves who like to pretend your fingers are a bottle!

Tasha’s younger brother, Zach, who rules the milking parlor and gave Katie and I our very first milking lesson. Thank you, Zach!

I let out a pretty loud shreik (cows don’t like loud noises!) after this cow gave me a slight kick. Can you blame her when she’s being pestered by an ameteur?!

Dairy success!

Thank you, organic farming! Three cheers for Greg Hetrick and his crew for making our world that much better.
What a great visit … filled with good quality time with friends and a look into the world of a cow. ![]()
